Udaipur feels different from the desert cities: hills, water and a compact old town where the City Palace complex runs along the eastern shore of Lake Pichola. It is the most popular Rajasthan destination for honeymoon travellers and for anyone who wants a slower few days.
The city also works well as a base for Ranakpur, Kumbhalgarh and Chittorgarh, all within a comfortable day's driving.

- By road from Jaipur: about 395 km via NH-48 through Ajmer and Bhilwara, 6.5–7 hours.
- By road from Jodhpur: about 250 km, 4.5–5 hours, often broken at Ranakpur.
- By air: direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
