Lakeside pilgrimage town with a famous November fair
Pushkar's 52 ghats surround a lake said to have formed where a lotus fell from Brahma's hand, and the town holds one of very few Brahma temples in India. It is compact, vegetarian and alcohol-free, and easy to combine with Ajmer.
In the Kartik month, usually November, the Camel Fair transforms the town with livestock trading, competitions and crowds. Accommodation and transport should be arranged well ahead for those dates.
