The Blue City beneath Mehrangarh
Jodhpur's old town is a maze of indigo-washed houses spilling downhill from Mehrangarh, one of the best-preserved forts in India. The fort museum is genuinely well curated, and the ramparts give the view that put the Blue City on every Rajasthan itinerary.
Beyond the fort, Jodhpur is a working desert city: Sardar Market and the clock tower are busy from morning, and the Bishnoi villages south of town offer a very different, rural side of Marwar.

- By road from Jaipur: about 335 km on NH-58 via Ajmer and Beawar, usually 5.5–6 hours.
- By road from Udaipur: about 250 km, 4.5–5 hours, with a possible Ranakpur temple stop.
- By air: direct domestic flights from Delhi and Mumbai.
