Mount Abu Travel Guide
Rajasthan's only hill station
At around 1,220 metres, Mount Abu is noticeably cooler than the plains, which makes it a summer alternative when the rest of Rajasthan is at its hottest. The Dilwara temples, carved in white marble between the 11th and 13th centuries, are the reason most travellers come.
It is most practically reached from Udaipur rather than directly from Jaipur, and pairs well with a Udaipur or Jodhpur leg of a longer itinerary.

Fort and temple complex above the town.
Ideal duration
- One or two nights, usually as an extension from Udaipur.
Best time to visit
- Pleasant year-round; particularly useful April to June when the plains are hot.
How to reach
- By road from Udaipur: about 265 km, 4.5–5 hours including the ghat road.
- By road from Jodhpur: about 265 km, 5 hours.
- Nearest railhead: Abu Road, 28 km below the town.

- The ghat road has tight hairpins. Cars and small tempo travellers manage it comfortably; very large buses are restricted and less practical.
