Painted havelis of the Shekhawati region
Shekhawati has been called an open-air art gallery: 18th and 19th-century merchant families covered their havelis in frescoes, and Mandawa has one of the densest concentrations still standing.
The town is small and best explored on foot with a local guide who can get you inside the courtyards that are open to visitors.
